Did it look wrong before pressing—or only after?

That one question prevents a lot of unnecessary editing. A file checker can inspect pixels and transparency. It cannot measure the heat, pressure, film, or movement at your press.

File-side risk

You can see a box, blur, halo, specks, or poor sizing in the artwork.

Review the source file, its transparent areas, and the pixels available at the final print size.

The white rectangle

JPG files and some exports have no transparent background, even when the background looks white on screen.

The blurry full-front print

Print clarity depends on actual pixels divided by actual print size—not the DPI number saved in the file.

Use a larger source, choose a smaller print, or request review before trying to “sharpen” missing detail.

The pale or white halo

Soft, semi-transparent edge pixels can interact with the white underbase used in DTF production.

Inspect a transparency map. Do not automatically erase glow, hair, smoke, or distressed edges—the right treatment depends on the design.

The mystery specks

What you see
Tiny dots print away from the main artwork.
Why it happens
Stray visible pixels can receive a white underbase and become more obvious on fabric than on screen.
Best next step
Zoom out and inspect the full canvas. Keep intentional stars, splatter, and distressing; remove only confirmed debris.

Details that fill in or disappear

What you see
Small text, thin gaps, or distressed texture loses definition.
Why it happens
A detail can be too small at the chosen physical size even when the overall file has many pixels.
Best next step
Increase the design size, simplify only if the detail is not essential, or route logos and critical lettering to expert review.

The wrong size or extra empty canvas

What you see
The artwork prints smaller than expected or is difficult to place.
Why it happens
Transparent space around the subject can be counted as part of the file dimensions.

Trim transparent spacing and confirm the finished width and height of the visible design before ordering.

When the file is fine but the application goes wrong

DTF recipes vary with the transfer, film, powder, garment, and press. Always follow the instructions supplied with your order before using a general internet setting.

Edges lift or the transfer will not bond

Uneven or insufficient heat, time, or pressure; moisture; an incompatible coating; or peeling at the wrong stage can prevent a complete bond. Recheck the supplied recipe and confirm that your press gives even pressure.

A shadow or double image appears

The transfer or garment may have shifted during pressing, peeling, or repressing. Keep the garment flat, place the transfer once, and avoid sliding the carrier while it is warm.

The fabric looks shiny, scorched, or discolored

The garment may be heat-sensitive, or the application used too much heat or time. Check the garment care label and test an inconspicuous area or spare blank first.

The print cracks or lifts after washing

An incomplete initial bond, skipped repress, incompatible fabric finish, harsh washing, bleach, or high dryer heat can shorten durability. Let the print rest and follow the care instructions for your transfer and garment.

Contact us before pressing if a delivered transfer is visibly damaged, contaminated, incomplete, or different from the approved artwork. A press cannot repair a production defect.

Safer workflow

Check in this order

Confirm the visible artwork.
Check spelling, background, edges, and intended colors before ordering.
Confirm the physical size.
Judge resolution at the final width and height, not at phone-screen size.
Keep the original file.
Background removal, trimming, or enhancement should create a new version, never overwrite the source.
Inspect the transfer before pressing.
Stop and contact us if the received transfer itself appears damaged or incomplete.
Follow the supplied press recipe.
Time, temperature, pressure, peel, and repress instructions belong to the specific transfer.
Test unfamiliar garments.
Heat-sensitive, coated, waterproof, or highly stretchy materials may need special handling.

Quick answers

DTF artwork FAQ

Does every DTF file need to be 300 DPI?

300 pixels per inch at final size is a useful high-quality target, not a promise by itself. The design type, source quality, physical size, and fine details all matter. A smaller print may be acceptable when the same file is too soft at full-back size.

Can I upload a JPG?

Yes, but JPG normally has no transparent background. If you do not want a rectangle behind the design, use a transparent PNG or select background-removal help.

Should I mirror my artwork?

No. Upload the artwork in the orientation you want it to read. Mirroring is handled in the production workflow when required.

Can an upscaler restore a tiny logo?

Upscaling can create more pixels, but it cannot reliably recover missing letters, logo geometry, or true detail. Critical text and logos may need a larger original or expert redraw.

Can a file check catch every bad print?

No. It can catch file-side risks such as size, transparency, background, edges, and spacing. Printer condition, RIP settings, film, powder, curing, garment, and pressing must be checked separately.
